The "Lublin July 1980" Award is given to commemorate the strikes in Świdnik, Lublin and other cities and towns of the Lublin region, which took place in July 1980 and which started the fight to introduce systemic changes in Poland. On 1st July when the communistic authorities introduced the increase of prices of meat and ham without any ritual announcement or customary wage compensations there were uncoordinated strikes in different workplaces in the country.
